St. Cairo Animal Rescue Shelter
Founded by Marie Lint in 1992 St. Cairo was named after a special Pitbull that came into her hands after being used in the fighting ring. After nursing Cairo back to health, she was asked to foster and care for a number of animals used in a similar fashion prompting her to open SCARS – a Rescue Shelter known for taking in abused, neglected and difficult cases over the years. After an illness claimed her life in early 2008 the shelter has almost doubled in size thanks to volunteer effort and fundraising.Annual Government Funding:

Founded in 2001 by David Casterfield, a horse enthusiast and certified horse whisperer at the grand old age of 67. His home was once a livery stable many years back but after purchasing the property in 1874 the previous owners found that its location wasn’t practical for earning money and used instead for storage. Once they passed on, their nephew David inherited the property with this knowledge and decided to instead open up the doors to the neglected horses and ponies of the country – some coming as far as hundreds of miles to seek his loving hand. He has been looking into retirement.Annual Government Funding:
